PEDAL BOARD IS ALMOST COMPLETE / FULLTONE BASS DRIVE QUESTION

Sign in to disble this ad
So I've got my pedal board almost complete.

bass->
BYOC wah ->
BBE OPTO STOMP ->
FULL TONE BASS DRIVE ->
PRESCRIPTION ELECTRONICS YARDBOX ->
(BOSS HYPER METAL) ->
BOSS EQ-20 ->
BOSS CEB-3 ->
DOD FX-75B FLANGER ->
boss dd-20 ->
BBE sonic max

My questions are:

This is a basic effects order, if you were to do it differnt how would you do it.

The fulltone bassdrive is an amazing pedal. I just don't know what to do with it. What are some settings you use and what sounds do you try to achive with it. Is this more of a preamp or a distortion pedal?

The boost doesn't seem to really boost, is this common?

This is all I can think of right now.

What do you mean by this, exactly? You set the boost knob as high as it will go and it still doesn't exceed unity gain? Does turning the boost knob when the boost is engaged do anything at all?

The boost switch in the Bass Drive isn't technically a boost per se. It just swaps the BOOST knob for the DRIVE knob in the circuit. Now the two pots do have different values, so it's not exactly the same as two presets for the DRIVE knob, i.e. the sound can definitely get more overdriven with the BOOST mode than without it. But if you're looking for the BOOST switch to work like a separate boost circuit, you won't find that in the Bass Drive. You'll have to look to the GT-500 if you want to stay in the Fulltone range.

As for deciding what order to stack the dirt pedals in, just keep switching them around and choose the one that works the best.

I keep volume, tone and OD all at around 3. And boost at about 12.

You really crank it up that far?

I realised I had the volume on my compressor turnd down so I raised it to about 3oclock. That made a bit of a differnce.

I was expecting more of a boost (with bassdrive) but after playing with it I can hear the overdrive differnce.

Wait ... I'm sorry I meant volume, tone and drive are at about 9 o'clock. My bad.

Volume is always at 7 or 8 o'clock, maybe 9 if I'm not using CompCut to get unity gain. I like the tone around 9 or 10 o'clock to get punchiness. Overdrive and Boost are both to taste depending on the amount of distortion the song needs. Previously I'd almost always keep the thing in CompCut mode, but lately I've been bugged by the huge sensitivity of the volume knob in that selection -- a tiny tweak will either make me ridiculously loud or drop me out all together -- so I've been playing around with the other settings which sound IMO almost as good, but aren't as finicky.
