Pedal board power?

Sign in to disble this ad
I've looked around and asked, but have gotten no reponses or responses that do not relate to what I'm looking for.

I'm in the process of building a board. Because of the amount of pedals involved, I do not want to order the wrong thing.

I will be running the following:
-Jerk Face: Efx loop/bypass
-Tech21 Bass Driver DI
-MXR Carbon Copy
-Boss CE-5
-Line 6 G50

The only issue I have is pedal board size and power.

The Line 6 is the sticking point, because it requires 500mA to function properly.

With this in mind, I know the Voodoo Labs PP2+ will fill the need. Do I have any other, cost-effective options for external, isolated power???

I'm not sure about any other options, but can tell you the PP2+ is excellent and after a one time purchase you will never need anything else.

Yeah, I have a feeling that is what I will go with. Just wanted to see if I had any other option.

I recently had a problem with switching power supplies and some pedals. I could hear high frequency noise when my pedals were plugged in. Even with hard bypass!! I don't fully understand how the noise was induced when my pedals were all bypassed but it most certainly had to do with the cheap power supply. I switched to my old style boss adapter and it's dead silent again. If I had to do it again, I'd spare no expense on the power supply and get a good one. Even the finest pedals will make noise with a crappy power supply....

Well fortunately, my wireless requires so much juice that most cheap power supplies aren't even alternatives.

I just want to make sure I explored everything before buying a VLPP2+

Be careful with the line 6, because the pp2+ only supplies a maximum of 250mA from the two higher-A outputs.

I really like the pp2+ and power my entire pedalboard with it, except for the TC electronics Nova Repeater which requires min. 300mA, so I power it separately with it's own wall-wart.
I installed a powerstrip on my pedalboard in which the wall-wart and the pp2+ are plugged, so I still have only one cable to plug in the wall.

Here is a great site showing lots of different kinds.
I use the Dunlop Pedal Power and had no problems!
Pedalboard power supplies, Alctron, Biyangs, Burkey, Fuel Tank,

From Line 6's support section.
"Q: Can I use a Voodoo Lab Pedal Power Plus 2 to power the Relay G50 receiver?

A: Yes, but you will need to use the Voodoo lab "current doubler" cable and you will need to use outputs 5 & 6 of the Pedal Power Plus in "normal" position. VooDoo model PPAP."

I have a 1spot daisy chain powering most of my pedals and just put one plug on the G50 and it worked fine for me it didn't make any extra noise or other issues.

Also where is your BDDI in your signal chain? When I was using mine I had it last sent the 1/4 to my amp and the XLR to the PA and ran it off phantom power from the board that would be one less effect you have to power.

I'm trying to minimize the amount of cords leaving my pedal board. With my wireless receiver on the board I would only have to worry about power, and a signal cord going from board to amp. I imagine I'd use the DI on my amp for the PA. However, I'm a newbie with effects and everything else.

Have you considered 1spot?

Google it.

I can't use anything else.

The one spot doesn't isolate. It's just a daisy chain. I may have a guy willing to sell me a VLPP2+ at a song. Fingers crossed.

I was looking at that...I only have three pedals to power (the 4th is a 12v so it'll have to be on it's own, regardless) so the Voodoo seems a but much for me. But everything I own is true bypass and I've taken extra care to keep the noise factor way down....does 1spot have any noise with it?

Have you considered the ISO5? Isolated outputs so you don't have to worry about noise.

Bassgod, the only single power supply that could fit your situation would be the PP2+. Not even the very similar BBE Supa Charger could work in this case because it's extra current jacks are only 200mA each instead of 250mA.

Thanks.
Realizing this, I opted for the DC brick for my pedals and a powerstrip to power the brick and wireless. I saved $50 by buying it used.

This is what I did. I got this big ,etal powestrip from work, but it's too tall to fasten it to the bottom of the rack.

I will buy a slimmer black power strip, and velcro it underneath. The wall worts prevent me fom closing the case lid.

Two more pedals and my board will be complete.

I have. I've just have no experience with multipower supplies...and the Voodoo is a good $80 more than the 1spot.

I guess I'm just looking to see if this is one of those "you pay for what you get" kinda of things or if the 1spot comes close to the Voodoo noise factor-wise.

It depends on your needs and how picky you are about your tone.

The only thing I have right now is a Sansamp BDDI, Markbass Chorus/Flanger, and a PEWaves true bypass tuner....I have plans on getting a Joe Meek FloorQ compressor...but yeah, I've tried REALLY hard to keep my tone nice, clean, and uneffected. Pretty picky.

Which sounds like I should just shell out the cash and go with the ISO5.

It does. Do you notice a significant difference between your tone straight to the amp and going through your board? Based on your current board there really shouldn't be any tone suck happening and if there is, a new power supply might be a good idea.

I'm running 7 pedals right now with plans to get at least 4 more and so far my tone is almost completely clean through my board (my RC-20XL squashes the upper mids and treble a teeny bit but not enough to bother me).
