Pedal board recommendations .. please

I am a long time drummer who has just started playing bass in a cover band too. We are a 4 piece band with drums, guitar, me on bass and vocals. I need to fill up some space sonically on some songs and I'm looking for a recommendation for what pedals I should be looking into. for example, I need a distortion for things like Maroon 5's "Makes Me Wonder", and some sort of bass synth pedal for dance stuff. We are doing current rock and pop. I'm playing either an American Jazz Bass or a 5 string Lakland 55-01 through a Mark Bass Little Mark 2, Traveler 15 cab and 12" Mesa Powerhouse cab.

Any suggestions would be great. Prefer budget items. not looking to break the bank on effects, just fill up the sound a bit.
