Pedal for cab switching question, thoughts?

Sign in to disble this ad
I want to be able to switch b/w cabs.
Can you use an non passive ABY pedal for something like this? I have the radial twin city active ABY pedal, i was wondering if i could run this pedal and make it switch cabs or would the load probably fry my pedal.

I know radial makes a cab switching pedal too.

Cab switching is a whole lot different than switching between amps. You're sending higher voltages and loads of current out the back of an amp so this could be tricky. You'd need to some big components, like cross-over sized ones.

I would stick with a pedal expressly made for this one purpose.

I would probably stick to an ABY to two separate amps. And 'amps' could be anything from a mixer channel to a micro-light head to a guitar combo to a poweramp, etc. But I wouldn't mess with switching a 300w+ signal between cabs.

You really want 2 amps... I've dorked with it (and my budget).. the amp system is a combination of things.

But then again why not just go digital amp and modeling effects.

Even with a good pedal, switching cabs is a delicate operation that the amp doesn't like much.

You would need a Radial Tonebone Cabbone switching pedal.

Take a look:

http://www.tonebone.com/tb-cabbone.htm

They're not cheap though....

$260.00 for a 100 watt model

$350 for the 300 watt model
