Pedal Chain - Noob question (dont hate...i see you)

Amp > bass vt >Fuzz Factory > Weeping demon > Bass

^ is my current line up i found a few days ago. bass vt HAS to go first, fuzz factory has enough signal and actually sounds good second, and the wah sounds great with the vt distortion.

so when i get reverb in the mail this week *hopefully tomorrow* i should put it at the end, since it need the least amount of signal right? which means closest to my bass if im getting that right.

note: reverb is digitech hardwire rv-7

Hi there,

It's not a question of signal, but rather: what sounds best in which position? There are no HARD rules to this, but personally I would recommend (and do this):

Bass> weeping demon> fuzz factory> VT bass> reverb> amp.

Wah pedals after distortion always sounds too extreme and 'fake' to me, whereas before they sound better (to my ears like all tone filter effects, phasers etc. As usual: YMMV IMHO etc, etc.....)

The Hardwire Reverb is a great pedal. At first I was a little disapointed with mine (after having used many different multi effects and a couple of Digitech Digiverbs) but this week I tried it in stereo and was blown away! So I recommend you give some time to experimenting with it when it comes in and not to judge it immediately. Those Lexicon reverbs are very lush!

Considering that the vt is meant to emulate an amp, I would think that it is more likely to be meant to go at the end of the chain.

Not trying to sound like the usual "open ended, non definitive answer you don't want" I see alot, but either and any way can work. Just experiment, switch around effects, and find what sound works best for you. You could happen upon a sound that is totally new and is a break in the "pedals should be arranged this way" monotony. Have fun!

I always find reverb is best AFTER distortion/overdrive devices, otherwise you are distorting the envelope/tail of the reverb and it sounds very unnatural.

If you don't use the VT to obtain a distorted sound i.e. you keep it clean, then yes, reverb before it will work, but the moment you dial in an overdriven sound the reverb will sound terrible before it. IMHO, YMMV, etc, etc, etc, etc.

other way around- the bass is the beginning, speakers are at the end. the signal chain flows from bass forward.

I find distortion after wah the best and in my case, synth pedals before wah.
