I know there are lots of "what order should my pedals go in" posts but i was wondering if there are any rules of thumb regarding the ordering of pedals and such?

Yes, there is one rule. It is: try every combination until you find what sounds good to you. Seriously! We can yammer all day about what sounds good to each of us, but it's entirely subjective. If you are using a compressor, I do have some chain suggestions for that in my FAQ, linked in my sig.

"If it sounds good, do it."

That's my one and only rule.

People have "their rules" but there's no reason why they should apply to you and your rig.

There are no rules as such, you can put any order you want if it sounds good to you. Here's a link that I think should be stickied in this forum, it can shed some answers and maybe some guidelines

Have fun

I think one of the most important rules, is that, there are none...

now what I mean by this is, I've followed a sort of "logical" progression with my pedals...but just recently, I turned everything around and it sounded 10 times better than before.

it pays to experiment.

I BREAK RULES!!!

I do have one "rule" though that I can think of. If it isn't a rackable head, I don't use the effects loop. I haven't tried it, but I just consider it a hassle because of the extra cabling needed and I would prefer to have everything at my feet and in line with each other.
