Pedal with Compression and low/mid or bass eq?

Hi,

I am a complete effects noob. I searched around the forum as best I could but couldn't really find anything helpful. I play in a salsa band using a passive Fender Jazz, Markbass LMII, and a Mesa Boogie Diesel 4x10. I feel like my sound is not "punchy" enough, and sounds too "mushy" (does that make any sense?). Another bassist recommended I try using some compression. Can anyone recommend a pedal for me? Something with a low-mid or bass eq (around 60-100 hz) would be an added bonus. Thanks!

I don't know of any compressor pedals that have eq built in, but from the gear you've listed, I'm surprised at the results you report. Sounds like a great rig, should have plenty-o-punch. Search for TB member Bongomania, he's got a link to a huge comressor encyclopedia- lots of great info.

There are not a lot of pedal comp options with EQ/tone controls included. Off the top of my head:
FEA Opti-FET
Guyatone BCX
Retrospec Squeezebox
Boss CS-3
Diamond BCP-1
EHX Bass Metaphors
EXAR BC-04
Moen Uni-Comp
TC Electronic Sustain + Para EQ

All of those have significant pros and cons, so they all need to be researched before buying. The main one I'd recommend you look at is the Diamond.
