pedal to convert to active output

Sign in to disble this ad
i just bought a ebs bassiq and find the output on my passive jazz bass and sadowsky metro too low to really open the filter - even with the threshold on full. i like the effect otherwise. sound guys always say my output is really low also.
what would be the best pedal to raise the output of my basses to an 'active' level? a sadowsky outboard pre? fishman preamp? compressor? boost?

cheers

A good clean booster pedal, on a lower setting would do it.

Sadowsky (as you said) and Aguilar make their active systems in outboard form.

Also, PLAY HARDER, YA PANSY!

Hehe.

sadowsky metro, low output? you gotta be kidding me! mine is hot as hell!!!

is your metro active? what model do you have? mine is MS-5, its active that's why i said its hot output. i heard a lot of good things about mxr micro amp, check it out.

The passive jazz shouldn't have a gain pot inside it...

Try the Barge Concepts GLZ-1.

The Electro Harmonix LPB-1 is real, real cheap and would work to raise the output.

+2 on the LPB-1. Cheap, and it works. +1 on playing harder, as well.

If you know someone who can solder surface mount resistors, write to EBS and ask them for details on a mod to change the gain structure of the pedal. I had exactly the same issue with my BassIQ and after signing a non-disclosure agreement with EBS they sent me the schematic and instructions for how to mod the pedal.

Basically you up the input gain and drop the output gain - overall the gain remains the same, but the increase in input gain triggers the filter more.

I use a Fodera outboard pre to boost my vintage Ric. The ol' pickups aren't quite what they used to be. When playing clean, its fine, but it doesn't get envelope filters working properly etc when it is plugged into an effects chain.

It cranks once its gone through the pre. An outboard pre is the same as having an active bass, but you can use it for multiple basses.

I use the Trilogic preamp, great for EQ but not enough juice for a boost. But I plugged this little device on my passive basses and it does a great job. Very convenient (on the strap), clean and +18Db of gain.

ok cheers....

not sure if i know anymore that solders SMD stuff nifty.
its weird EBS made it like that. multidrive has a active/passive button. that would make much more sense - esp. with such a signal dependant pedal....

I agree, perhaps they'll update it soon.
