Pedal Deals on TGP

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm wondering how people have done with pedal deals on The Gear Page.
My concern is, that there is no feedback system there, and a lot of people with adds have less than 20 posts. Some people on there have been members for a while, but only have a few total posts.
I've done a few deals on TGP, but both were with long-time members with hundreds or thousands of posts.
Makes me a little nervous with the former, and of course, makes me appreciate TalkBass classifieds. I usually do well on TB, but sometimes things don't move or I'm looking for something not available here.
I'm interested in your opinions.
Thanks.

It's as you suggest, the larger and faster-moving the market is, the more you have to beware. So far I've done fine with my TGP transactions, but there have been plenty of ripoffs and disappointments among other people there--to such an extent that the owner decided to forbid any posts about negative dealings, because he couldn't afford the legal liability.

Continue to do your homework about the people you deal with--there is no sense in either avoiding the market, or diving in without research, hoping not to get ripped off.

Yeah TGP or ilovefuzz aren't as secure as TB is with the whole feedback system. I'm in the middle of buying a pedal from TGP, I just searched the threads where people post names from good transactions. Fingers crossed I don't get ripped off. I don't judge people by the number of posts unless it's really low and they haven't been a member long. On ilovefuzz I've been a member since 2008 and I think I have 50 posts.

Dunno about TGP but I've done probably 20-25 trades on ILF and never had an issue. The place is just as secure as anywhere. Plus it's free to list there.

I'm probably a bad guy to ask, since I've never had a buying or selling problem here, TGP, ILF, ebay or anywhere else. But in general, as long as you use Paypal and you don't agree to make it a gift transaction, you're basically covered as a buyer. Paypal is HEAVILY weighted towards the buyer (and against the seller) in any dispute, and no matter what, you'll either get your pedal or your money back.

I've never had to deal with a bad transaction.....so I'm not experienced in it....but doesn't paypal offer some protection if you select the right transaction?

I should add that I've never had a bad experience on ILF.

I've only dealt here, ILF and TGP. The only bad experience I've ever really had was on TGP. Just my 2 cents.

I've had 2 good experiences with TGP, but like I said, both people were long time members and I think they both had thousands of posts. Very active members.
I've got a trade offer from there, right now, and the guy has been a member since 2007, but only has 20 posts. Just not very active, I guess.
I've also seen a LOT of people selling there with under 10 posts. Like they just joined to sell.
Anyway, I appreciate the input.
I love the feedback system here, and I've worked hard to keep my feedback 100% positive.

I've done at least a dozen deals there, and I think I only have like 50 posts. Honestly, I DID join there just to sell. Because there are a lot of rich bastards over there that think nothing of dropping 400 on a pedal just on a whim. That makes it a great place to sell.
