Hey there guys
I'm new to this joint so first off HI EVERYONE
secondly,
I've been playing for about 9 months
I own a Musicman SUB and my amp is a Line 6 Lowdown
now although the lowdown does have a wonderful array of pre-amp sounds that u can fiddle with i am however wanting to branch out to get maybe some pedals for a bit of sonic mobility
my main influences are :
Tool (before Lateralus), ISIS, Jesu, Karnivool, Pre.Shrunk, Neurosis, Thunderbolt, A Perfect Circle, Mastodon.
Mainly tho I'm going for the weird Experimental Atmospheric Dark Rock approach.
So any thoughts on what pedals i should buy to achieve this? |

As for Isis, I believe Jeff Caxide is most known for his chorus usage. I recall a thread on that from a while ago.
I'm not terribly familiar with the other bands you listed.
As for dark ambient (a la Robert Fripp?) you can't get enough delay. Distortion and fuzz are also good options as is an Ebow. But hey, if you're experimenting then you should go out and find your own stuff, make your own approach |

What I was thinking about as I get plenty of dirt from my current amp was maybe a Multi FX board like a Zoom or Digitech Whammy with foot controller.
I'm really glad u mentioned Jeff Caxide as he is most likely my favourite Bassist, as well as Paul D'amour. If you could find that old thread it would be very much appreciated. And I will prob add Chorus and Delay to the list.
Any other suggestions? |

| | | | Mystery blue box Someone said a while ago on the pedalboard of the stars that it's a PS-3 used as a heavy chorus.
So yeh... Boss PS-3... does all sorts of wonderful sounds including chorus.
Too bad I hate chorus. |

So any thoughts on what pedals i should buy to achieve this? | I've got the same "problem". I'm currently in a band sort of comparable to ISIS and i'm also looking at seperate pedals. I'm not too fond of the chorus filled sound of Isis, i want more of a distortion type of sound. So i've been reading a lot about the big muff pedal which should deliver some dirty *ss distortion/fuzz. I currently use my Boss ME-20B for distorted sounds but i'm just not to happy with the rest of the whole multi-effect thing.
We're a three piece and so it needs to be really dirty at times. Our guitarist has some pretty dirty distortion but it would even be better if i could play over his tunes with a heave thick distortion. I'm also curious about the ebow. I'm not really sure what it does, i'm guessing it's something like a bow on a violin or cello (like the singer of sigur ros uses), am i right?
anyhow, i'll keep you posted on my findings. |

I got the line 6 Lowdown myself and I love the combo ( I got the LD300 Pro) so if you need any help about that amp just PM me.
A lot of Tool and ISIS is chorus effects, Justin chanceller loves that effect! I would say just surf around the effects forum a lot, espically the show your pedal board section and I think on youtube walbassplayer( I think his youtube name is toolbassplayer) shows off his pedal board set up and explains every pedal he has, and his pedal board is close to Justin Chancellors.
ya here is the youtube link : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rPA015Gjyt4
Hope that helps! |

So he uses a chorus-type effect? Alright, I'll look into it. |
