Pedal for Growl!

I have a schecter elite 5 converted to passive, which has enhanced the sound so much...but I need a pedal just to get a bit more "growl"...without losing any bottom or mid range.....what do you recommend?

A parametric EQ is the best tool for this. If you're lazy or don't want to be bothered, get a simplified one such as a Yamaha NE-1.

The Wren and Cuff Phat Phuk B is great as a tone ballsifier/growlifier.

i agree with a parametric EQ, you can find the growl and crank it up!

Are you still using the Hz pickups? If so I may just be sad I sold mine. It played beautifully, but I could never dial the EQ right.

The term "growl" is somewhat generic and can be achieved as many have suggested with EQ / preamp, light overdrive, harmonic enhancement, etc.

Can you be a bit more specific about the tone you're looking to obtain?

I'm in full agreement but can you elaborate on how & why this works? I had my Fulltone BD in line last night but actually got more low-mid growl / presence by boosting ~250 hz by 3 dB via the rackmount pre.

I believe the NE-1 is 'cut' only, so you can't boost the 'growl' frequencies to get more growl. Besides, the NE-1 isn't made anymore.

A sansamp paradriver might work.

Nope. It's also able to boost some frequencies.

To get a lot of growl I cut low mids (100-300 Hz) and boost high mids (600-1200 Hz or so). Most of the time it works. Of course you need to tweak this basic recipe to make it work with the gear you have in your hands.

I found boosting ~120Hz specifically added a bit of "growl" to my jazz...
