Pedal for modulating noise over distortion!

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm looking for a pedal that can make wild sounds over high volumes of distortion already. All the time I've been thinking in getting a wah pedal that can catch that distortion and modulate it for some crazy noises.
But I've been also considering getting a 3xfx FatMan or Fuzz Bomb. Fuzz probe would also do this probably, but maybe too expensive? Actually, I have no idea how much the 3xfx pedals cost.
So what would you advice?

- Distortion (i already own a turbo rat, little muff, and bogdan's famous pedal - sometimes all 3 at once!) with a wah pedal? If so, which wah?
- 3xfx? Fatman or Fuzz bomb?
- Fuzz probe?
- Others?

I want something that cuts through. Sometimes i use the bass balls for this and it cuts way through, maybe too much (bass balls steals everything when it's on), but although i kind of like it, it's not exactly what I'm looking for and i can't modulate it with my feet.

My vote is going to be the fuzz probe, and I say this because I used my fuzz factory last night, and it did what you wanted, I believe.

If someone can host a sound clip, I think I have just the thing for you.

It's a custom made noise box I had made for me by this super cool guy in Florida. It distorts your signal and then you can twist and turn knobs for crazy screeching noises and other fun noise making stuff.

I made a really quick demo, so if anyone can host it I would be very grateful.

It's about 4-5 pedals, the main part of it is a Catalinbread v8 for the oscilation and then on the blip synth its mainly that into a Subdecay Prometheus.

On the other its the Catalinbread V8, Subdecay Fembot, Subdecay Noisebox.

That pretty much covers it but all you need it the V8 as a sound source then any pedal will modulate it in a unique way

Some more suggestions please. Interesting stuff here already, altough the suggestions were more to the synth side of things. Anyone here already tried the pedals i mentioned?

If you're after crazy noises, feed your favorite fuzz into a pitch detection based pedal, such as an octaver or bass synth. warbly mess will come.
Guyatone TZ-2 into Akai Deep Impact is my favorite.
Oh yeah and of course, ring mods rule the world of random noises. It's incredible how many strange things you can get out of them.

Give a Digitech Whammy a try!

I already have a Digitech Whammy, and it works sometimes for that, but i'm really looking for something meaner.

Chris, you can use soundclick to host your samples.

Maybe i should consider ring modulators too, I've seen the trogotronic pedals thread and they seem to do this, although not with a foot controller.

I'm still interested in hearing someone that already tried 3xfx pedals.

I really like that part in the middle of your first clip TaySte! That is the subdecay prometheus part?

If you're into building stuff, check out the uglyface, it's a pretty wild buzzy distortion that you can set the threshold on... when you let off playing it oscillates at a frequency, and of course there is a knob to control that. Wild dog whistle highs to 20 hz drops with ease! I built mine into a wah shell to control the frequency, and when you work the pedal while playing you get a synthy spattery wah type effect. It's pretty awesome- sounds like the end of the world. Sounds even better into a delay.
