Pedal Rehousing Advice?

I have a few old pedals back from my don't-have-a-j-o-b days: an Ibanez Soundtank CM5 Classic Metal, and a Danelectro PB&J Delay. Good enough sounds, terrible packaging.

I'm looking to rehouse them, but all I can find online is info on crazy mods and electronic experimentation (and lots of people who will do it for you, for a fee).

All I want to do is rehouse these pedals in something sturdier than plastic. I have no trouble keeping the chintzy knobs and jacks; I'm not a pedal abuser these days.

Okay, one mod: True Bypass. So, in other words, I'd like some advice on:
  • Appropriate housing (I'm thinking Hammond boxes?)
  • Tips and tools for drilling
  • A how-to on replacing the switches with True Bypass (does it involve removing/applying soldering, for example?)

If anyone has advice for a total neophyte, then it's greatly appreciated.

I would hit up BassManMike73 great guy he's building pedals and I'm sure he could hook you up.

1: Yes, Hammond boxes are ideal. Look at Mammoth Electronics, pedalpartsplus or small bear for every size or color you could ever need. These sites are also your best sources for 3dpt switches, jacks, etc.

2: do yourself a huge favor and buy a proper stepped drill bit. Not cheap, but it will drill a perfectly round, clean hole in an aluminum box and its adjustable: http://www.grainger.com/Grainger/IRW...121116153055:s

3: I use this wiring diagram for true bypass:http://tagboardeffects.blogspot.com/...rd-wiring.html

+1 to the stepped bit. I recently ponied up and bought one. Never looked back! A scratch awl might do you some good too for punching holes

I prefer the MadBean wiring diagram. Only because its slightly easier for me to look at:

Pedalpartplus do some nice powder coating, in pretty much any color you would want. I prefer etching my enclosures, but I built a custom fuzz for a friend a while ago who wanted it powder coated, so I ordered it from them. They did a nice job. Smallbear is a good place for parts IMO, the have a more expansive range compared to pedalparts.

Pedalpartsplus also drills for a fee too. I've used them several times for my utility builds and rehousings. Just send them a diagram with measurements, pick your box and paint (or none) and off you go! Probably cost you about $10-$15, depending on design.
