Pedalboard Advice needed! Lots of effects and a big PedalTrain!
I am attempting to put together my first pedalboard in a few years and any help would be appreciated.
I was happy with bass to tuner to amp, then added a chorus, then dug out my envelope filter, than added boost..... You know how it goes.:D
In any case, I just picked up a nice PedalTrain board from my guitarist and got a great deal on a Voodoo Lab Pedal Power 2 Plus, so I figured it was time to get my stuff organized.
So, I am running 2 basses to my Radial Big shot ABY (or 1 to my wireless) -> TC tuner -> to Radial Booster -> Tech 21 Bass Boost Chorus -> MXR Bass Auto-Q Envelope Filter -> Sansamp Programmable BDDI -> Dunlop Bass Wah -> amp.
I almost never run multiple effects together. I generally run clean but MAY kick on the boost and add chorus or the envelope filter.
Any thoughts? Make sense? Am I mental?
Here is a pic before I Velcro everything down and clean up the cables.
There's no right or wrong way to do it, it's basically whatever you like the sound of best!
Personally, I'd have the wah and filter closer to the front of the chain
Wireless or Big Shot->Wah->Filter->Boost->SansAmp->Chorus->Tuner
I know pedal order is subject but I would always put the wah first.
I order like this Compressor - Wah (this includes phaser) - fuzz - modulation (chorus) - time - volume. It is how I was taught and I was explained the logic behind it as well as why a phaser is a wah, but that was too long ago for me to relay the info properly. There is really no wrong answer as long as volume follows time, unless you want some crazy effects.
Personally I think your mental, all that tone loss. ( :D sorry couldn't resist) Not my bag but go for it, if anybody is gear snobbing you they are going to be too busy complaining about how you suck on a fodera and not even notice the pedals. I am not saying you suck, I am impersonating "those guys".
And I agree about phasers, but also forget the technicalities. I don't include them in the modulation camp with chorus and flange.
Great advice. Thanks.
I am trying to avoid buying more George L (or other) cables or being forced to use longer (3-5') ones.
I forgot that the wah makes sense at the beginning and the tuner at the end.:hiding:
Thanks for the assistance guys!
I set it up..... Wah -> MXR Auto-Q -> chorus -> boost -> SansAmp BDDi -> tuner.
I may switch the BDDI and boost, but it sounds good to me now (rehersal tonight will be the real test).
