Chorus and add a bit of grind to taste.

He used an old 70's Clone Theory if memory serves.

He uses SVT's sometimes cranked all to hell.
I think that pod of yours has all the cranked SVT you'll need.

I'd crank up the gain setting to where it starts breaking up a bit. Then start with putting the mids around 2 o'clock or so. See how that sounds. I'd just dick around with it from there and see how close you can get. Experimentation is half the fun. He uses or used Gauss 15" speakers in an old Marshall cab and a few other configs so thats the setting I'd use..(15" cab or 2-15). Actually I see a setting in there for a 4x15 marshall major cab. That could do the trick.

Hehe...that chorus is anything but subtle. Certainly has a "reverby" quality when its depth is set so deep.

I'm pretty sure he used rack pre/power amps in the later days and a Hiwatt tube amp in JD and the first album. 15" drivers.

Plus a Rick slung low to the knees. Can't leave that out.

Actually you can, he never owned a Rickenbacker. Since the OP specifically mentioned NO, I'd suggest a Yamaha.

Well, I DID say "Rick!"

Happy to stand corrected!

The Rick's gotta be a sensible part of his sound

Those are from the JD days.
He mostly plays Eccleshall Semi Hollow basses now which are nice custom copies of the Guild Starfire basses.
ES-335 style bass

Here is a cool vid with some good looks at the bass:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mRfbnrXzLgs

It's all relative though. I can't imagine how infuriating it would be for Talkbass to keep up with which bass I play and when...haha.

It's a Hondo II.
And the Ecleshall is used only for live performance, NO albums were cut with a Yamaha.

Today my new DB-533 Semi-hollow arrived! I'm a big fan of Peter Hook and was able to recreate his sound on my Jazz bass pretty accurately with my current rig. The Dillion definitely is going to take it to another level.

So far I'm happy with the sound and feel but I'm definitely going to put some heavier strings on it. I had to add a line booster to get bump up the signal/gain. Some tweaking of the EQ is also in order for the new guitar. All in all I'm very pleased. I'll let you know how it goes.

There are already a couple of threads on PH, here's one. I know of at least another, but at least this one's a start.

Peter Hook chorus: alternative to Clone theory (not analogue man)?

Heavier strings did the trick (60, 65, 85, 105) as did tweaking the EQ a little. I also eliminated the Boss Bass OD from the loop. My effects are now:

Bass > EHX LPB-1 > Vintage Clone Theory > Amp

Effects Loop: > Boss NS-2 > Boss D-1 >

I'm now looking to get a little more definition out of the overdrive. Any suggestions?

Go figure. I was able to get the definition/tone I was looking for by actually dialing back the drive on the OD-1.
