Please help! Boss pedal jack problem!
I recently obtained a used Boss FZ-2 Hyper Fuzz on fleabay. Love this pedal to death. Had it for maybe 3 weeks. It has worked perfectly until about a week ago. It would start to cut out. I'd mess with the jack a little bit and it would continue to work only to cut out again after a short while. It's very strange however. The pedal only cuts out the fuzz. The light stays on but the signal does not go through. When I click it off, the signal returns back to normal. I figure if it was a problem with the jack malfunctioning and power not going into the pedal the light wouldn't stay lit and my signal wouldn't go through at all even if the pedal was off as all pedals need to be powered to let the signal flow correct? I pulled the thing open and did not see any loose wires (I'd did see a surprising amount of wires and circuitry that I honestly did not expect!) Everything inside seems considerably clean and new considering that the outside is really beat up and the age of the pedal. I'm not a tech savy person when it comes to circuit boards and such and just left it alone in there.
Anyways what I am getting at is: Has anybody else had this issue with a boss power jack? Did you fix it yourself? If so how?
I did notice that the inside of the jack is quite dirty and a bit corroded but have no idea how to go about cleaning it. I have put a blast of air to clear any debris but it didn't do anything.
I tried two power supply daisy chains. A one spot, and a generic Chinese cheap (but reliable) one from eBay. Pedal has the same issue with both.
Tried to stick a 9 volt in it, power but no sound. Even tried the 9 volt one spot adapter. Same result.
I managed to temporarily fix it by shoving a skinny pick in the crack underneath the jack to lift it up a bit but there is no way that will stay like that. It will fall out when I move the board.
I wanna say I've been scammed, but the pedal worked flawlessly for 3 weeks up until the last few time's I've used it. I usually never buy electronics from eBay.
Any help will be appreciated. It's quickly become one of my favorite pedals and I'll be sad if I need to spend money on another. It's bugging me! :help:
Get a high power magnifier and look at all of the traces and solder joints near the jack. Try to wiggle the jack while inspecting the board… you should find a trace broken or a cracked solder joint.
