So currently im using a Morley Power Wah Fuzz, and i love the sound and sweep at the top, but the response time is a little poor, and by that i mean that i can only get that really cool wah sound if i depress the pedal slowly. it doesnt respond quickly if i want a faster action on it. maybe the pedal isnt functioning properly or maybe this pedal just isnt meant for faster sweeps, that i dont know (and if you know please tell me!).
so if the PWF is going to be replaced id like to try one of these wilson wahs, but im not sure which one to buy (as they have like 10 models). i keep reading things about the freaker being a cool one, but i wanted some inputs from you wah guys as to which one i should get and why. what im looking for is the longest sweep possible (and i heard the parachute does this but im really not trying to spend 400 on a wah pedal), and a fast action so the wah will respond. also, this will be used with a lot of fuzz and tons of low end coming from my bass (another reason maybe for the lack of response from the PWF) so i need a pedal that can handle that sort of input.
i know thats a lot but this is the place to ask, so fire away! |

It has competition coming up in the form of a Xerograph lowpass filter though - I love the Freaker but I do hear a bit of a volume drop when engaged and I'd prefer a lowpass to retain lows throughout the sweep.
I would get either the Freaker or the 12-position bass Q-wah with the vintage spec option. |

good stuff on the wilson. any big differences between the freaker and the 12 position? |

Sounds awesome with fuzz (due to a built-in buffer), external gain control (will boost your signal significantly if you want), internal level control, true-bypass, 6 different Q positions and an external control that I believe effects the midrange (quack).
I use mine with fuzz all the time and it sounds great. FWIW, I play a 5-string bass with an 18V preamp. I personally didn't have a need for 12 different Q postions. Definitely a keeper for me... |

The Freaker has some phaser elements to its sound, can be synthy, and has a huge sub-bass floor at the heel position. The Freaker is based off of the Parapedal, which is the Black Sabbath wah.

...as is the almighty blue one!

It doesn't sound all that much like the crybaby or the morley. It has a very deep "whoomp" at the bottom of its sweep that is very cool. I agree with Smurf when he said that it can even sound like a phaser sometimes. |
