power adapter

Sign in to disble this ad
hey,

I was just wondering...right now I have a boss oc2 and a moog mf-101. do I have to plus a power adapter into each one to use them at the same time?

Also, I tried using my moog adapter to power my boss but it wasn't working. the adapter says it puts out 9v and the boss uses 9v so what would the problem be?

EDIT: on the Boss pedal it says power with Boss PSA adapter only - is this really my only option?

You must get these things right for any one pedal:
AC vs. DC
polarity
minimum amperage
amount of voltage

Getting any one of those wrong is a recipe for destroying your pedals.

ok...my Boss pedal says 9V DC...my Moog adapter says output 9V DC 500mA. It is an AC Adapter

so am I going to always have these two powered seperatley? or all my pedals in that case?

how do I check that or make sure they are compatible?

the adapter has - o + and the pedal has + o -

edit: but dont I have to get a DC adapter for the boss since the adapter for the moog is AC?
edit2: nvm the boss says output 9V DC? I'm confused

specs for recommended boss adapter from boss website:
Input Voltage
AC 117 V (50Hz/60Hz)
Output Voltage
DC 9 V
Maximum Current Output
500 mA

If my moog adapter is DC 9V and 500mA output why wouldn't it work?

Boss pedals are center negative, your Moog is center positive. Their respective adapters are not compatible.

oh sorry I thought they had to be opposites (like batteries). I'm an idiot.

So then another question - is there a way to power both these pedals using only one adapter? Or will I always have to have them plugged in separately?

If you buy an isolated-outlet power box like the BBE SupaCharger or the Voodoo Labs PPII+, then you can run opposite-polarity pedals off it with no problem. All other methods will fail.

ok thanks.

last question - Im planning to put a mastotron between the OC-2 and my Moog...the mastotron takes the same adapter as the boss. Can I use something like the voodoo power supply to run all three at the same time. I just have to plug them all into it right? Is there ever a time when one adapter has enough current to run through more than one pedal with sufficient power?

Why not just get a power bar and plug their respective adapters into it? Another option would be to get/make/have someone make a regulated power supply with screw-on posts, get adapter cords with plugs matching the sockets on the pedals and connect the right wires of the cords to the right posts on the PS (this matching thing is important). The PS must be strong enough to power both units.

I think for now a single power strip will do but I'm just wondering in case the collection grows

Yes. Those isolated-outlet units I mentioned are capable of powering several pedals at once. Also, for all pedals that happen to take the same polarity of 9V DC, you can run them together on a daisy-chain supply like the Godlyke Powerall or the OneSpot. With the right cabling you can run a dozen or more pedals off those chains, as long as they all take the same type/amount/polarity of power.

check out diago power station - - diago is a small british company that makes a great all purpose power pack for your pedals; you can get numerous attachments for various pedals that aren't your standard 9V center negatives (like boss). i think the site is www.diago.co.uk
i use it to power 12 or more pedals at the same time and it's light as a feather.
good luck.
