which power supply for black label MIJ oc-2?

hey guys

I've just taken delivery of my pedaltrain jnr and have set it up with a bb bass preamp, peterson strobostomp, 81 oc-2 and the new mxr envelope filter.

I was wondering which power supply people were using with their old oc-2 pedals and could someone explain to me why they won't work with a normal power supply.

The original Boss PS was not regulated, so it puts out 12v when only one pedal is atttached, but less when you put more pedals on the chain. The old Boss pedals internally drop the power down from 12v to 9v. If you plug a modern 9v power supply into the old pedals, they'll drop the power down lower than the 9v they're designed to run on, so they won't work properly.

If you don't want to use the old ACA adapter, you could use a 12v tap from a pedal power supply that has such a tap. Or, you could have the pedal modified to work on 9v, but since I think there's some collector value for the older OC2, you might not want to do that. Personally I'd sell the old one and get a newer one that runs on a standard supply. There's no difference in the audio circuit so it's not like the old ones will sound better.

This is all true, by there's a very big but, which you will like. If you power it with a 9v supply that is daisy chained with another pedal them somehow connecting the grounds shorts out this 12v - 9v conversion business and the pedal works fine. You can see it for yourself if you power the OC-2 alone at 9v the LED will be very dim... Plug in a second pedal and bam, it lights up brightly and works just fine!

I bet you could use a godlyke powerall and bave it be just fine.

Many power supplies with isolated outs have a 12V option, so if you NEED that then you'll have it, otherwise use batteries on the OC-2 if you feel the need to keep it on your board.

I've been daisy chaining my OC-2 off my TU-2 or LS-2 and haven't have any problems.
