Power Supply Question for Multiple ¨Pedals

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi guys, I am really new at this.

I have a Blowtorch, a Q tron, a MXR octaver, and a Boss Chorus pedal. I would like to put them all on a pedal board and use one power supply.

They all use different kinds of power. Is there one power supply I can use to power them all?

That would be great. Thanks!

John

A Visual Sound Combo pack will get you started with the supply, daisy chain and adapters for most pedal types that use differing jacks. Works with all the pedals I own(ed) except for Akai Deep Impact and EHX Bass Micro Synth (reissue 24v).

Unfortunately, a 1spot won't work for the q-tron (24V) or the blowtorch (18V). That's gonna be a tough one. For the 18V, you can probably use a Y cable to combine outlets from a PP2, but for the 24V, you might need to use the wall wart.

I'll bet you could use the T-Rex Fuel Tank Chameleon. It's spendy but versatile. You'll want to check with T-Rex but I'll bet you could link 2 of the 12v outlets to get 24v.

Yeah, the Chameleon could do it.

Two outlets at 9V for the Boss and MXR, two linked with a Y cable at 12V for the q-tron, and the 18V outlet for the blowtorch.

you can use the PP2 with a Y cable for both the Qtron and the Blowtorch.
If I managed to do it, so can you!

Yup.

My pedal power 2+ powers my Bass Microsynth @24V and my Bass Drive @ 18V.

You'll need to order the adapters, and the unit itself is expensive but a much nicer alternative than a string of wall warts on a power strip.

There are a handful that will do it, but none of them are cheap- they are all in the $150-200 range new. I finally invested in an isolated power supply myself after years of just carrying around a One-Spot and a bunch of other random supplies for non 9 volt pedals, and it has been well worth it for me.

I personally use a CIOKS AC-10, because it was the only supply I could find with versatile outputs for both AC AND DC pedals in a single supply. The PP2+ is probably the most popular, and for good reason considering bang-for-buck and will fit most people's needs. The T-Rex Chameleon gets less love, but probably just because it's more expensive. There is also the Modtone Power Plant, though it is very large and IIRC has fairly low mA output on each jack, so may not be enough power for your needs. CIOKS also makes the DC-10, which is basically their answer to the PP2+, though more expensive and extra adaptors are less readily available.

Honestly, if you don't foresee any weird alternative needs like an AC powered pedal in the near future, the PP2+ is probably the best deal, and also the easiest to find used if you wanted to try to go that route...
