Powering a pedalboard

Sign in to disble this ad
Yes, yes I know not another "What is the best power supply" thread. Well, It is but it is far more specific.

I am looking for the one that can power my pedalboard the best.

Currently I am still building it up, but I know what I am looking for in terms of the rest of my pedals.

I have 2 18v pedals; Bass Blowtorch, and EVH Flanger
Currently I have 3 9v pedals : Boss Harmonist, Boss Tuner, Dunlop Bass Wah

I plan on getting the Boosta Grande (9v), Garagetone Trem (9v), Either Garagetone or MXR phaser (both 9v)

The last pedal I am slightly unsure on. I am torn between 3 options. Either a compressor, the POG2, or a reverb but I am leaning heavily on the reverb since I don't really use compressors and the POG2 has limited use for me. But regardless I am looking at all 9v pedals there too.

Now to my conundrum. A little while back I pulled the trigger on a Dunlop DC brick for a couple reasons. 1) it was on CL and relatively cheap and 2) it has outputs for both 9v and 18v pedals.

I know it isn't as reliable as other power supplies and that is why I am wondering what other people are doing about it.

I don't know of any single power supply that can handle 18v and 9v pedals in this volume, so I was thinking maybe what I will have to do is get a power supply like the voodoo labs to handle my 9v pedals and then keep the DC Brick to power my 18v pedals?

Help me out TB!!

Have a look at Cioks. With the right cables, you might be able to power the whole board with a single PSU. Cioks - POWER SUPPLIES FOR EFFECT PEDALS

I could be wrong but you may be able to daisy chain those 18v pedals off of the Voodoo Lab PPII+ using the voltage coupler cable and a daisy chain. I'm not absolutely certain on that so I would look into it or await confirmation. It would seem that as long as you don't exceed the current output you'd be fine.fer

For Reference; Voltage Coupler ("PPY 18v Cable"):

Daisy Chain (the one that comes with the Visual Sound 1spot):

The voltage coupler cable on the PPII+ essentially combines two 9v/12v (with the dipswitch away from normal) outputs into one 18v/24v output. The only thing is it doesn't double the current as far as I can tell.

By daisy chaining you could potentially power that whole pedalboard off the PPII+ alone.

Again I stress,...further research or waiting on confirmation.

I tried to find any statements in Voodoo Lab bumf that said that you could not daisy chain 18v without any success,...but I'm just making a slightly educated guess.

As far as weather or not you can daisy chain 9 or 18v with the DC Brick, which is essentially a daisy chain in a box,...I can't comment,...
