powering your pedal board???

Sign in to disble this ad
I see that there are a couple different ways to power your pedals and I can't really see a big difference between using a powersource block, sticking to a bunch of wall-warts on a power strip and a one-spot plug???

Does anyone know anything? Advantages and/or disadvantages of each?

The one-spot looks like the cleaner, cheaper option. But that's just my uninformed observation so far.

Having a load of single wall warts means that you need a plug for each pedal which isn't great.

A one spot plug is fine, if all of you're pedals have 9v centre-negative boss style power inputs.

the best types of Power supply run off a single power socket and have various outputs, so that you can supply lots of different types of pedal.

Depends on which "power block" you get. For instance, a dunlop brick is not very much more sophisticated than a one spot. Whereas a Voodoo Labs Pedal Power has isolated outputs which is significantly better as it greatly reduces the likelihood of ground loops forming.

Wall warts are very variable in their quality, which can be a headache. But, assuming good quality wall warts the major issue with them is the space they take up and their tendency to fall out of the socket.

One spots et al are ok, they're nice and compact and have plenty of power on tap, but they do leave open the possibility of noisy ground loops.
