the guitarist i am playing with suggested that i get a preamp to give the bass more punch. I just sub in with his band sometimes and it is a reggae band. so i think something that can give a clean fat sound that will have that punch it needs. I was also looking at the Sansamp programmable bass DI and that looks like a might do the job? i like the fact that it has 3 different channels that i could use. |

I'd go more for depth,...assuming you are using your Lakland Skyline JO; Try soloing the neck pickup, rolling your off your tone and playing fingerstyle and position you plucking hand near the neck. I'd try that before going out and buying gear.
The PBDDI is a good tool to have for it's DI alone and the three channels make it versatile. I could see you getting a dub, or reggae tone out of it (I've never tried that with mine), and then have two channels for overdrive and distortion; which I think the PBDDI does well.
Judging from your amp setup (according to your profile), you may not be pushing enough air to get the volume you need...2 15's instead of 2 12's. Or a combination of the two. Perhaps that's what you need is more volume as opposed to more punch.
I'm not a reggae bassist so don't quote me.

Aside from that, and aside from the usual proclamations that reggae tone and punch is all in the playing technique ... any EQ pedal should do the job just fine. Jeto's question about the RC booster is a valid one, because that is a "preamp" just as much as the Sansamp or any other preamp pedal, so can you clarify exactly what it is that is missing? What does the RC not do, that you want a different preamp to do? |

Perhaps the RC is too clean.
I wish I had one of those. I'd trade my BMS for it (you can get a great lowpass out of it) and something else (say, a great chorus?)
Anyhow, good luck on your search...I thought of the RC booster first and then saw you're selling yours.

| | | | Any sansamp + any Aphex exciter product and an EQ would be icing on the cake. I use the RBI + Aural Exciter + Rane EQ and if I blend in the FX25 with the sensitivity rolled back a hair, I'm swimming in dub land.
