| | | | Preamp + OD + Compressor all in one? My MXR M80 has the preamp + distortion. I saw that the Eden WTDI has preamp + compressor.
Is there a preamp that has a separate OD channel + a compressor.
I'm simply trying to save space on my board and I haven't seen anything like this. I'm not über picky about tone, just want to know if there are any options? |

A few amps have a comp and an OD channel or switch. You might be able to get a custom builder to do it though; [sfx] comes to mind.
Of course, a box that does all three well might not be that much smaller than individual pedals.
You could also go the multifx route. Most have a comp and OD, and I think a few can serve as a pre as well. It depends on your preamp needs, is it going into a poweramp, is it for DI, or just tone shaping? Most multis will do tone shaping, I think the zoom stuff might be able to do a DI. Don't know if any can drive a power amp.
Also, most ODs will compress the signal, but probably not how you'd like. Comps can be overdriven as well, but I don't find it very musical.

The preamp section has an OK EQ, the DI function works well, the OD and distortion is decent BUT the compressor has only an on/off switch, it's set at an extreme level and it's terribly noisy. Unfortunately, the only pedal I can think of that does everything you want is, well, not to expectations! |

B3 is a great little tool, and it sounds great. Check it out.
There's a tread going here check that out as well.

| | | | Wow great answers, thanks guys. Didn't know of the Ddyna, how does it sound (though I would like to stick with 9V cause I just bought a pedalboard that has individual 9V outputs).
I'm interested in the zoom b3 (I had a b2 before and it was fun), but I'd still like to stay with individual analog stompboxes.
I'm actually not sure what I need the preamp for. Mainly because it makes my tone sound so much better. I'm a little confused about what's going on at the stage. I simply arrive, setup my pedals, and then they connect me to a bass amp (usually). I'm not even sure what a power amp is, and whether my bass is passed on to the audience via that bass amp or via the PA (is the bass amp only for my monitoring purposes)?
Never had any sound guy ask me any questions, so have never been challenged to learn these things! I did use a sansamp for recording several years back, and I think we went direct from the XLR output to the recording console.
So, I don't know if I ever have to drive a power amp or not. I mainly want the preamp for the awesome improvement in tone (even with MXR M80, there is a massive difference compared to just plugging into the bass amp at the studio I practice in). Probably, getting all 3 (preamp, OD, comp) in one box is pushing too much. I wonder if I could drop the comp (though I like the idea of having more even output) or whether I could drop my Boss CE-5 (though I like how it widens my sound, even though I'm not sure the audience can even hear that or pay attention to it). And I'm even trying to add a Boss OC-2 to my board... Oh well... |

| | | | So, another related question is, what stompbox preamps are there that have two channels (one basic tone shaping, the other boost/OD)?
E.g., MXR M80 has that. I looked at Aguilar ToneHammer, but couldn't tell exactly what that other switch (AGS) does? Is there a list of preamps and what features they have somewhere? Wikipedia has these awesome "list of..." articles, it would be nice to do one for preamps, should I attempt that (with the help of this forum)? |

If you're looking for tiny pedals, I can really recommend the MXR M87 compressor, it's really compact and loaded with options so you can really finetune it. |

DI, preamp EQ comp and Dist. i still have to try ovnilab's suggestion of tweaking the compression so it wont squash and make much noise. but for now, i finally learned how to make it sound good. |

(I have a use for this though, I am running it into an old 70s Dynacord, but I still have the option to return it...)
