Which preamp pedals have 2 outputs?

Sign in to disble this ad
I was really interested in picking up a VT put noticed it only had one output. I would really like something that has two (one signal goes to my amp and the other to the board/interface). My amp has no line out. space on my board is limited and want to keep it that way, so I am not interested in the VT deluxe or anything too big.

So far, the only other pedal preamp I am interested in is the Tronographic Rusty Box.

Currently my signal chain is Planet Waves tuner, Arion SCH-1 Chorus (tone sucker but sounds great on bass), DOD Milkbox comp, Bass Big Muff and Digitech Bad Monkey (which is what I am looking to replace). Funny thing is most of those pedals have 2 outputs, even the Bad Monkey and it sends a decent signal direct.

Just trying to weigh my options. Thanks

SansAmp BDDI?

2 effected outputs and 1 parallel. You can send the preamp signal to your board via the XLR out and the preamp signal to your rig via the effected 1/4". OR, keep the signal chain to your rig as is and send the unaffected signal via the 1/4" parallel out, so you are just using the preamp when going to the board.

It may please you to know that Putman Guitars can mod the smaller VT bass pedal to include a DI output for a reasonable price. Also, rumors are flying that the smaller VT bass will soon be re-released by Tech21 with a DI and a switch to bypass the speaker sim.

Why not just get a buffered A/B/Y box made, or purchase one? You could also use the secondary out on any pedal that follows the preamp pedal that you are looking at. It's small enough that you could even keep it off the board if you wanted, and doesn't limit you to a select few preamps.

Edit: just re-read your post. Instead, get a DI Box. Then you can have any pedals before it, and it has through outputs as well as an XLR connection for going to the board. They are small enough to fit under a board if you need them to, or can also be kept off-board.

Yeah, forgot to mention I was holding off on the obvious choice but would get that if need be.

Oh, that's a good option to consider (second part of your post).

Modding the VT sounds like a good idea if you are sold on its particular vibe. I'm am curious about why the obvious choice would be the last resort. Is it mostly because the BDDI appears to be yesterday's news?

That would be my choice, BTW. (if I didn't already have a DI built into my amp ... though I sometimes still use a standalone DI because the DI on the back of my amp can be a bit noisy in some environments)

My main rig has a sansamp BDDI programmable, but it is used strictly as an inline pedal instead of DI. I also have a BDDI tossed into the gig back also to use as a DI with preamp, because you never know. I've had to bust it out on occasion (mostly at rehearsals or recording needs).
