presonus EQ3B as a DI

Sign in to disble this ad
I have tried several DI boxes and haven't been satisfied with any of them. I was wanting the opinion of the experts here on TB. Will the presonus work for a DI? It converts my unbalanced instrument signal to a balanced XLR, and gives me 3 bands of fully parametric EQ, so it should work, right? I have a great preamp in my bass, and I don't like the coloration I get from any of the pre-amp pedal DI boxes out there. This should be transparent and give me some extra EQ options right? Thanks in advance for th opinions and advice!

I have one, reviewed the manual, and I'm still not sure. The EQ3B is meant to be a line-level device (FX loops, PA inserts) so your intended DI application may be less than satisfactory. Give it a try; it's not like the thing will blow up.

Just because signal goes in the 1/4" input and comes out the XLR output doesn't necessarily mean it is converted to balanced. Mic cables can carry unbalanced signals too. I'm pretty sure some rack units do the conversion, but not all do. But I'm honestly not 100% positive in this case.

I think you can use the TubePre as a DI. Don't know about the EQ3B.

I was originally going to make a 1U rack out of the TubePre, EQ3B and (whatever compressor it is that matches that lineup). Ended up just getting the Eureka preamp in the end.

Not gigged much recently, but that was a great clean pre that I could use to DI.
