Presonus Parametric Equalizer

This is a review of the presonus EQ3B. It's a three band fully parametric equalizer. It has Q adjustment for each band from .1(wide) to 10(narrow) with 40 intervals between each band has a gain knob +12/-12 db, it also has 40 intervals between the two limits. There a three overlapping frequency knobs, one from 20hz-300hz, another from 200hz-3000hz, and the third from 2000hz-20000hz. Each knob also has 40 intervals.

This is a great eq for $100, its about the size of two boss stompboxes, it basically allows you to customize your own 3-band eq. However I suggest learning about how parametric eq's work so one could get the most out of the device. So far this eq has been great. I only wish it had more than three bands, so that you could have another band or two to be more articulate with your bass and mid response. Then again for $100 I could always by another.

Isnīt the frequency knobs, LOW from 20hz-800hz, MID from 700hz-7khz, and HIGH from 5khz to 20khz?
Anyway, it looks like a very good deal: more possibilities than the MXR M-108 and itīs also cheaper and looks cooler. Iīm looking for a equalizer to use with my bass and ampeg b200r combo. Any suggestions, out there? The Presonus looks very tempting!

Why bother with the words "low" "mid" and "high"? 4kHz is "high" on a bass. Anyway there are very few fully parametric EQ's in the small/cheap category, the Presonus is one of the few in current production. I was disappointed by the build quality of the compressor from the same product line, but I've never heard any negative comments about the EQ.

I have the Presonus firebox and I know it is made of good quality, but it also cost three times more then the EQ. That is little worrying. But it looks so cool...
What was so bad with the compressor?

I have the Firebox too, and it sounds good but runs very hot, which is a physical design problem, and I've had some grounding glitches with it as well. The preset-selection knob (a digital multi-position encoder) on the compressor started failing randomly under normal use. The EQ has no digital encoders, nor is it packing the same amount of processing power as the Firebox, so it is not vulnerable to the exact same problems.

Yeah, an EQ-pedal must be easier to build. Not so many things that can go wrong. (I hope)

I know, I guess they take "truth in advertising" very seriously!
