The Pro Co Rat2 or Big Muff

I'm going to be buying a distortion pedal over the weekend and I'd like to know which one sounds better, based on your experience?

Between the two, I like the Muff more. But, it depends on your taste and what type of tone you want. If you're into more heavy-fat sounding fuzz, then Muff. If you're into more static-crackle distortion, then Pro Co Rat.

I've heard mixed reviews on the Pro Co Rat2. It seems most prefer a mod or a copy that addresses certain quirks with it. I own a modded copy and like it. I've never owned the original, so don't take my word for it. Just do some digging on TB to get some good insight.

Before this gets littered with everyone's two cents, please let the OP tell us more about what sound he is looking for.

I'm looking for a Doom/stoner kind of sound. Weedeater, Electric Wizard kind of thing. I love Rons (Bongripper) sound and he uses a Pro Co Big Box Rat.

I Any idea which pedal I could use to get that sound? Unfortunetly I don't have a Sunn amp or 4x15. I have an Aggie DB750 and a Fender Pro Series 2x15.

Well, you answered your inquiry. Get a vintage or vintage reissue rat.

Steves music here in Ottawa don't have it and I have a gift certificate to blow there. lol

My choices are Big Muff or Rat2.

My son should know better than to confine me to 1 single store.

Get cables, strings, etc. and pick up a vintage/reissue rat.

Trying to mod a Rat2 is no fun!

I have both and I really like them running together. If I had to go with only one I would definitely go with the Muff.

Sounds like you already have your answer though...
