Ok I'm really pressed for time so I'll make this quick. Here's some very quick soundclips of the Pro Tone Bass Fuzz. LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU THINK.
Ok, first clip is some low detuned sludge. I'm using my Gibson SG Bass which is shortscale and has light strings on it and in dropped C# it's a little muddy. So what: http://media.putfile.com/ProToneSG1
The next clip is a different riff in C Minor: http://media.putfile.com/ProToneSG2
Then I tried a little Larry Graham style (which by the way doesn't typically work too great with an SG Bass) Cool fuzzed out sound: http://media.putfile.com/ProToneSG3
Then for those of you who like light gain I turned the fuzz down to half for just a little overdrive: http://media.putfile.com/ProToneSG4
And then down even further for a pretty clean tone: http://media.putfile.com/ProToneSG5
Yeah, I don't really care for those last two clips. But here's some clips with the Wilson 12 Position Bass Q Wah: http://media.putfile.com/WahProToneSG1
Yeah, not my best wah usage... I'll have to work on that one. And here's a different style clip: http://media.putfile.com/WahProToneSG2
Ok so I don't have time to put these on soundclick but I will later sometime so don't worry if you're having trouble playing these on putfile. Anyway, I've got to go, but any questions, comments, opinions, whatever, please speak up. |

Apple juice is D major 7 because that was what I was strumming earlier today whilst drinking some of the sparkling variety. Empty crab shell / Sprite can is likely three random 5th chords played in an overly simplistic style with incredible volume and distortion, much to the chagrin of my girlfriend currently sleeping on the couch at 3am.
The first clip is my favourite by the way. Get some more with said baritone ukulele and this thread will get even better.

I've tried my baritone ukelele on some people and so far I've blown people away with my songwriting craft on my baritone ukelele. I've transposed some parts I wrote on piano to baritone ukelele and they're just killer! Each chord is like a sentence, each with it's own meaning and feel, and the whole song tells a story! It's a mindblowing experience. |

Great with the bottom end too, I was able to have my fuzz effect and still fill out the mix with my bottom like I do.
And I have a question for anyone who would answer the poll "kind of cool" as opposed to "awesome". My guess would be that you're thinking this either has too much or too little gain, or is either too aggressive, or not aggressive enough? Anybody care to comment? |

Like I thought it would it didn't get as distorted a sound with the Jazz, and I do prefer the sound I get with it with my SG Bass, but it is kind of cool with the Jazz as well. If anyone would be curious as to what this thing might sound like with a Jazz Bass I could possibly do clips of that. Just let me know. |

But by the way I did take a quick peek inside the pedal, and it appears to me that the center of the pedal is an IC, if I were to hazard a guess, I think this one is IC based. If anyone would be curious I could take a better look and try and figure out exactly which IC it is. |

Also I would enjoy seeing some pictures of this pedal, I can't find squat on their website but then again I only looked for about 8 seconds before typing this sentence.

With the Jazz Bass the sound isn't quite as distorted and the Jazz doesn't have the fat, thick bottom that my SG Bass has. It's actually kind of odd because, you'd expect the sound to be tighter with the Jazz, which I string up with the same strings as the SG Bass except the Jazz is longscale and I put the strings through the bridge too so it remains much tighter now than the SG does (I've done muddy dropped C# clips with the Jazz but that wasn't with the strings through the bridge). Anyways, what I was saying is that the way the fuzz surrounds the note with the Jazz sounds a little sloppy to me, so in a way it's actually a little tighter on the SG Bass than the Jazz, which, for the reason I've stated seems counter-intuitive. You'll just have to hear what I mean. People seemed to dig the other kinds of clips I've done with a similarly sloppy tone though, so maybe you'll dig it. We'll see. |

It doesn't have the fancy paintjob that some of the other Pro Tone pedals have, it just has a couple of racing stripes, looks a lot like Pro Tone's simple booster except the stripes are green and the pedal has two knobs instead of one. |

| | Banned | | Join Date: Mar 2008 Location: Michigan | | Ok, here's the Jazz clips. Notice it's much more of an overdrive with the Jazz. Also, the strings on my Jazz are dead. Oh well. http://media.putfile.com/ProToneJazz1
and some Larry Graham style overdrive playing: http://media.putfile.com/ProToneJazz2
I wasn't too fond of the sound I was getting with my Jazz, but now that I bother to sit and record it I think it does sound kind of cool. Anyone have any opinions regarding this pedal with the SG Bass vs. the Jazz Bass? |
