I really like the JDI and its nice natural sounding warmish DI...To me I'm selective though about where I use it, only because I prefer (but not always) an active DI.

If you want a clean DI the ultimate is the JDV...Hands down.
You get out exactly what you put in. Thats what Marcus Miller was using live before going to the Basswitch ect...Check out some live recodings of the Marcus and your hearing the JDV.

Another vote here for the Jdi, but i use an active bass. It allows a very full spectrum of frequencies, with no coloration.

Personally I would say JDI. Not to say you will have problems with the 48. The problem will be with the soundman when you change back and forth (active-passive)with the 48. For the 48 to work He needs to switch on the fathom power. If you are using long cables (20 ft to pedalboard, 25 ft to DI, cables on the pedal board could be another 10 feet, then a 50ft cable to the board) you may lose a little signal. You may want to use the J48. But on the other hand the JDI will also be fine as you along with the soundman can get a steady signal as well with just using the J48. I have worked with soundmen who like the standard passive DI. In fact you will see them mostly with passive as its the easiest for them. I noticed right away when I brought my JDI and left my J48 home. It sounded cleaner. Not that the J48 is dirty just that I think he had a better signal eq for him to work with. If you do get the JDI and use both basses I can't see a problem. Will Lee uses the JDI on the David Lettermen Show and he uses a number of different basses. He said he finds the JDI as a passive, no battery easy single that sounds good.
