Really Loud Static/Hum, Pedal is useless
So... Went to the favorite Guitar Center a while ago and bought a used DOD Envelope Filter for like $25 bucks. It worked at the store, but then never got around to playing with it. Jump forward to now. I plug it in to try it out on my rig, and after a few seconds this incredibly loud hum/buzz/static noise almost blows my ear drums. It's similar to the sound if you put your finger on the tip of a cable plugged into a live amp.
Now, I don't know much about electronics. My first thought was a loose wire or something on the input/output jack was loose. I open it up, and can't find anything loose or unsoldered. I've tried it on different amps. Tried using battery or plugged in. Same thing, just loud buzz.
Is it even worth it to take this to a shop to have them look at it? Or do I have a cool new paperweight? I didn't lose too much money, and it was so long ago I don't have the receipt or anything so not really worth returning. Curious what you smart and more electronically inclined folks have to say.
