Question roland re-20 space echo expression

Sign in to disble this ad
ok so i've owned a RE-20 space echo for almost a year now and was wondering if anyone has had any luck with trying an expression pedal with it. I own a Moog EP-2 expression pedal and no luck with no matter how wide i set the knob on the EP-2. besides the EV-5 (roland McDonalds palstic pedal) is there any other options?

I'm also very interested in this, as I've been in love with the Space Echo for a long time, but I wouldn't want to use it live without an expression pedal to keep the out-of-control oscillation goodness from running totally rampant.

i've got the same setup as you Gozu. sounds great and is very fun for experimentation.

Out of the Moog EP-1, Maudio EXP, and Roland EV-5, the EV-5 is the most solid and best feeling imo; all three are solid plastic. I've only spent a few minutes with an EP-2 and it felt in the same category as the EV-5, though I hear about many more issues with the EP than EV, ymmv.

the EP-2 does NOT work for the RE-20 space echo. i tried in many differnet positions and with extending the knob as much as possbile.

If you extend the knob just a little further, it might work. Other than that, Im stumped.

i exteneded it a lil further and swore I heard a response this morning! it was slight but then again it was after my 3rd night shift in a row and i might have been a little....on the giggly side.

Maybe try some extenze?... sorry, bad joke.. the whole lot of it- I actually wasn't sure what you meant by 'extending'. (were you talking about the trim knob, or only inserting the jack part way? something else?)

Do you have the EP-2's trim pot all the way open for full range, and can you test it with other pedals successfully? I just checked out the RE-20 manual, and as far as I can tell, there should be no difference in using the EP-2 or EV-5 with the RE-20, and they should both work. The only other thing I can think of is if you're using the correct method of initializing the expression use, because the manual's description makes it out to not exactly be plug-n-play, and requires a few steps to activate control over the parameter of your choice. Here's an excerpt of the manual in case you haven't tried this:

Quote:
Setting the Function of the Expression Pedal
1.
Turn off the RE-20.
* Disconnecting the plug from the INPUT A/MONO jack switches off the power.
2.
While holding down the TAP pedal, turn on the power to the RE-20.
The virtual tape display flashes, and then remains lit.
* Connecting the plug to the INPUT A/MONO jack switches on the power.
3.
Turn the MODE SELECTOR knob to select a function for the expression pedal.
*1 This function can be controlled only with an expression pedal.
4.
Press the TAP pedal to set that function.
The TAP indicator flashes rapidly, and the setting is saved to the RE-20’s memory.
When setting is saved, the TAP indicator remains lit, and the RE-20 returns to its
normal operating status.
* Be absolutely sure to avoid turning off the power while settings are being saved.
* This setting is retained even while the power is turned off.
* The factory default setting is REPEAT RATE.
