Roll off high end...

I recently bought a ToneBender MKII replica, and I really like the tone and feel of the pedal, the only thing I dont like is the "hiss" that the pedal bring into the sound...

It there a easy/cheap way to roll off some high end with \out loosing my tone?? because Im a little afraid of using an EQ...maybe like a passive tone knob or something...

Let me know your opinions...


By the way, I use this pedal with a guitar not with bass...

If you are good at electronics, a simple low pass filter will do the trick, thing is though you will loose some of you're original tone because aswell as cutting hiss, you're cutting some of your guitar highs. Have you thought of a noise gate? They get rid of hiss when your not playing, generally the hiss shouldn't be noticeable while you are playing so it shouldnt be a major problem!

A passive tone knob will work but it would be like shaving your face with a guillotine. When you say "an EQ", remember that EQ encompasses everything from the widest-band, most tone-smashing device to the narrowest, most precise notch filter. Being afraid of "an EQ" is like being afraid of "amps" just because some amps won't have the tone you want.

Noise exists primarily in the frequency range from 18-30 KHz, so a notch filter cutting around 20 KHz is usually all it takes to kill hiss. That's how many noise suppressors work. Noise gates, like the guy above mentioned, turn down the volume between your notes, which reduces the amount that the noise is noticed.
