Ruetz Mod questions

Sign in to disble this ad
So, I'm looking at modding my ProCo Vintage Reissue Rat to add in some more low end. I'm looking at this DIY Tube Guitar Amp Page and am confused on which resistor to replace with a pot to dial in more bass.

Which one should I replace to give me more bass?
Also, for those who have done the mod, should I do it for both resistors? Is it worth it? I'm thinking of just doing small trim pots, so will it even fit if I do both?

Are the photos on that page not working for you? 'Cause I'm looking at it and he has three different versions of the Rat shown, each with the appropriate resistor circled, or with an arrow in one case. It could not possibly be any more apparent--if you can see the photos.

Sorry, the photos do work for me. My question is more which resistor value do I remove and replace with a pot? It gives the option to remove either the 47 ohm or the 560 ohm resistor or both.

I clipped off the 47 ohm resistor, resulting in a significant loss of gain but more low end. As far as I understand the mod, clipping the 560 ohm resistor will do the opposite - more gain, less bass.

For me the ruetz mod works. Far more usable, both on guitar and bass.

Thanks so much! That's what I thought. I just wanted to make sure, though.
