i plan to buy a hartke vxl bass attack preamp pedal http://www.samsontech.com/products/p...fm?prodID=1734
i wanted to know if it would be completely okay to engage it with a passive bass?am asking because my boss GEB-7 bass eq doesnt work well with active basses, guess the signal gets too hot for it.
so whatsay?

You may have to adjust an input gain knob on the pedal, or worst case scenario, turn down your bass. I'm surprised to hear that the Boss 7 band isn't working with an active. Are you boosting a lot of frequencies with it? |

so whatsay? | Strange, I ran my active basses through almost all kind of Boss EQ and never encountered any problem.
The only fx that won't work well with active basses is fuzz.

I struggled for a long time to find a wah pedal that didn't distort when faced with the output from my Stingray, and if I really dig in, my BassIQ will clip.
An EQ pedal is particularly susceptible to clipping because it has the potential to introduce a lot of gain. Also, any filtering type of pedal is more likely to clip because they dramatically boost specific frequencies - often to the point of clipping.

That does limit your selection quite a bit, but it's one solution. Another solution is to find a pedal which handles the output level of your bass just fine, and which has its own output level control. Put that pedal in front of whichever other pedal is clipping, and adjust the output level of the one to match the input needs of the other. |
