Running BDDI into Poweramp into Cab?

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm not sure if this is the right place to start this thread, but I've got a burning question.

Right now, I'm at a point where I think I need to upgrade my amp. It's an SWR LA15 (I was lucky to get a good one, no defects for the past 4 years), but I'm finding myself wanting more power.

I've got a PBDDI, and I was wondering if I could run that through a power amp, then into a cab in lieu of getting a "real head?" I'd imagine it's like treating the PBDDI as the EQ section of an otherwise flat amp.

The reason I ask is that it's pretty difficult to get a decent deal on a good bass amp, but power amps keep popping up used, and they're quite hogh-powered.

Am I going in the right direction, or am I going to burn something down?

Thanks!

I basically do this, and it works fine.

I bypass the preamp in a behringer head i have and just use its 450w poweramp to pump my PBDDI.

That is how my rig is setup and it works fine. Just remember to press the 1/4" out boost button. Only thing you can burn down is the cab if you fo insane with your power amp. Use your ears, they will tell when the cab is being maxed out.

I used this setup with a non-programmable BDDI on loads of gigs.

Awesome, awesome, awesome!

I'm loving my Sansamp more and more!

But a deal just popped up...
Yorkville BM200 and 500W 4x10 - $410 on Craigslist...

Too good of a deal to pass up on (especially here in Canada)... but I like my poweramp idea...

get it and use the yorkville head as a poweramp by bypassing the pre.
