Running direct to the PA through Line6 Bass XT Live

My amp is crapping out on me and I have a few shows coming up. The one Saturday (this Saturday) is at a venue with a decent PA, and I was wondering if I could reasonably go direct from my Bass Pod XTLive into the PA and not sweat it. There isn't a sound guy and they don't have DI's... I only worry b/c the line out from the XTLive - as you probably know, if you're reading this - isn't balanced.

Thoughts?

Even the crappiest venues I have played in had at least one DI box! Looks like you can either buy a cheap DI box, or just use a regular unbalanced line and live with the resulting noise. There might not be any noticeable noise anyway, keep the cable as short as possible and away from any mains power leads.

I've just bought an Aphex Xciter 2nd hand for about £40 / $80 and recommend it. It has a DI output so you can hook it up to their mixer with a balanced cable, and it'll sweeten up your sound no end!

Ah, but have you played in the crappiest venues in New Orleans?!
I know a DI is a better option, I just wasn't sure if it would be awful - thanks for the input, I really do need to look for a DI, I'll start by looking at an Aphex Xciter... or upgrade to the Line6 X3 Live...

You'll probably be fine using an unbalanced line, I've seen people use synths and laptops with unbalanced lines going long distance straight into the mixer a few times. You might get a slight bit of noise, but when the whole band's kicked in, nobody will notice!

I'm not an expert on DI boxes, but there's a few threads on here about em. But I know the Aphex can do wonders for your sound, and it has a double usage - you can use it with your amp rig, or as a DI box if you are amp-less!

MOST of the time if there's any "PA" you will find a box of cords, mics, and at least one DI box(usually with a ground lift switch). If not, your line out will be fine. My BODXTL goes about 30 feet in a Monster Studio Link unbalanced into whatever I use(either QSC 2402's or BOSE PAS depending on venue).

As long as the snake cable has decent shielding you should be fine but be sure to:

Have the IDIOT switches on the back set correctly. Switch #1 as you normally set it, switch # 2 to LINE.

I've been bitten by these accidentally in the wrong position(s) and have resorted to checking them at every gig(see reminder arrows on my POD):

Set the software output to STUDIO DIRECT(see manual if needed).

Turn the volume "stub" on the back next to Idiot Switch #2 to wide open.

Run you mixer signal into a LINE LEVEL or AUX input on a channel.

Make SURE you patches' volumes have been leveled so you don't change from one to another and drop out of the mix or get suddenly louder.

NOTE:
If "they" let you use two lines, send one from the "DI" output and one from "MODEL" output.
If they only give you one, send the PA the "MODEL" output.

That should cover it.
