| My impressions so far OK, so I've been fiddling with this thing since Sunday. I think I'm getting close to what I want out of it. It has threshold, attack, ratio, level, and tone knobs. Like the few other compressors I've tried there is no indication of what ratio it's set at or how many decibels the threshold is at etc. I can get a sound that I like pretty easily but I'm still having trouble getting the noticeable compression that I like without flattening my Q-tron too much. I'm sure there's a ratio that I'm looking for that will work this way. I really see the appeal of two and three knob compressors now. I currently have the threshold at about 3 o'clock, attack at 10, tone at 12, level a little past 10, and ratio a little before 10.
It can get some pretty heavy compression and quite a bit of gain. I think it may have been designed with guitar in mind.
The tone knob doesn't seem to do very much. It sounds fine in the middle, somehow adjusting it either way doesn't sound right or add anything special. I mean, it works but it doesn't sound as good as the tone knob on a bass.
Overall I think this is a quite decent compressor. It doesn't seem to contribute significant noise unless you crank up the gain. It doesn't seem to loose any lows or highs, although I'm not a hi-fi tweeter guy so I might not be as sensitive to high end loss as some. I don't notice any tone suck and it doesn't need power in bypass.
One annoying thing is the DC jack is a slightly smaller than the standard Boss type and it wont work with the One Spot adapter that fits in there. I'm using the battery terminal connection which seems to be ok so far. |
