Sadowsky Outboard Pre and Active Basses..??

Sign in to disble this ad
Greetings,

Ive seen varying and sometimes conflicting comments regarding this preamp and hope so users can fill in the blanks.

Ive got a new recording project on the horizon.Im looking at picking up one of these to use with a new passive Lull of mine. However I want to run my Classic Ray through it as well. Im most interested in the DI but will use some eqing if necessary.

So...what exactly is the negative of running an active bass through it? It seems that this is no different than running through the preamp section of my Shuttle with my Ray...I typically send a post feed to the board.

If I'm right,using a pre on an active bass is a no-no......Useless.

There is no difference just more processing,,,Eq,,,ect.

You may find that running any eq pre mix is dangerous... If you have tracks ,split and run a dry signal too. You can always add the box later.

It's just adding another potential layer of noise. Not that the Sadowsky is noisy, but every time you add something you add noise - potentially anyway.

The best use of the Sadowsky DI/preamp is for passive basses. It's like having the preamp without molding your bass - like your passive Lull. With the active Ray the preamp part isn't necessary. However, you could just not engage the preamp and use it as a DI.

Or you could just try it with bothh and see what happens.

Yea...I think trial and error will be the final test.

Just wondered if the Sadowsky will give the Ray a different flavor at times. More interested in warming and tightening things up than anything else.
