Hi All,
I'm thinking about ordering a Sadowsky Outboard Pre Amp/DI pedal but I've also heard great things about Avella Coppola Kah Boom Pre Amp Pedal. Essentially, I've heard that the AC pedal is more "vintage" sounding. It's also more than $100 than the Sadowsky pedal and (I think) it doesn't offer a DI so I'm wondering if anyone's had a chance to compare these two.
Any insight will be appreciated. Thanks!
P.S. I searched but nothing came up......

It's a two-band EQ pedal. Big whoop. It would have to sound freaking amazing to be worth that price, considering there are many really-good-sounding EQ pedals out there at half that price.

in short, the differences are subtle but are there. as you boost, the treble on the sad is voiced slightly higher and becomes glassier. the lows are also a touch lower. when using a realistic amount of boost (ie, not maxing the controls) they can sound extremely similar. |

I've owned plenty of other high end basses with a lot more bands including Alembic Series 1, and the Bart NTMB. But the Sadowsky is a very musical pre that just plain works. Having played A/C basses their on-board pre is the most vintage sounding active pre I've heard. If this one is identical to the on boards it would be well worth it, although I'm surprised it doesn't come with a DI out. In fairness both of those basses sound awful good because of the care taken in the whole package from the wood to the construction to the set-up and plugging either pre into a plywood frog want a prince make, but it will be a far better sounding frog.

If you directly compare the Sadowsky outboard box with any of the other semi-high-end EQ pedals on the market, you can hear the Sadowsky is not any better-sounding than the others. I'm not talking Boss or MXR of course. The fact is, there are a lot of really nice-sounding EQ pedals on the market right now: Fromel, Barber Linden, Empress, HBE Detox, etc., and all of them -including the Sadowsky- cost 1/2 to 2/3 the price of the AC. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
