Sadowsky Outboard Pre, What's Your Opinion?

Sign in to disble this ad
For some reason I seem to be having Sadowsky GAS just recently (probably 'cos they're the BIZ) but no way can I afford one right now. So as I mainly use passive P basses I'm thinking Sad's little black box maybe the way to go to sate my cravings. So if you've got one, or had one, what has been you experience and your opinon of them? Thanks in advance for any advice.

Nothing from me sorry. My Sadowsky GAS is limited strictly to basses .

Sad pre here...

I just posted a thread asking where all my pedals need to be placed in my signal chain and an older Sad pre is part of it. I bought it here from fretlessboy. Its the plain/jane V/T/B box, no pre, 9 volt batt only. But everytime I try to start a gig without it using my passive, Skyline JoBo 5er; I usually hook it up after the first set. I just like what it does for this bass.

I use it with my Markbass F1 and either a Eden 410xlt or GB Neox 212T cab. I just started a band where I need to use some other effects for funk/soul tunes. I plan to keep the Sad pre in the chain. Just ordered a couple power supplies to not fuss with batteries. This'll be nice to get away from the 9 volt required in the Sad pre.

I think there is an older model Sad pre, like mine and a newer one w/D.I in the accessories for sale here in classifieds. Its an old beater of a box but I'll keep using it with the JoBo. My other basses, 55-02 & Cirrus 5, do fine without it. Good luck. Hope I helped some.

While I have no experience with it, it is a highly regarded preamp and one I'd love to give a try.

I think the preamp section is similar (V/T/B); if not the same, as what Roger Sadowsky puts in his basses. Obviously it will have the extra bells and whistles (DI, Tuner out) I don't know it's output voltage, but I imagine it would drive a poweramp fine, if that is even a desire. It is only slightly more expensive than a Sansamp BDDI (which is probably not a fair comparison); so giving it a try isn't that far of a stretch.

I had the newer stomp box version and the older version without the DI and mute switch. I think they are wonderful! IMO, if you have a quality fender style bass, it can get you at least 80% of the way towards the Sadowsky sound you get in a Metro or NYC bass. The only reason I sold mine was to raise money for a great Fender Roscoe Beck V (heck, I was dang near looking for pennies under the sofa because it was an expected purchase!)
