Sadowsky Outboard PreAmp(s)

I bought the "old" version (belt clip/ 9V Batt/ vol knob/ bass knob/ treble knob) some ten years ago, and still very happy with it, except that it has given quite a number of dings at the back of my 71" Jazz Bass when I am clipping it to my shoulder strap. Users should know what I mean!

It has also been dropped quite too many times, now it is covered with dings, paint chips, a bent vol knob before it dies (largely to do with the clip). So I began looking at the "new" Outboard Preamp/ DI version, so need advice from you guys on my questions:
a) Does it sound similar to the "old" version?
b) Should it be fed through the effect loops or "from bass to amp"?
c) Any significant difference between the two, except the DI function and floor mounted?

Many Thanks!

ok. we shall. its better to be fed before the amp. it is a preamp after all.
and no major features that are difference. other than its on the floor and has a DI.

they said the old one sounds better. but i heard it from an old geezer who heard it from someone else... i would say get a newer one. for two reasons. as back up. and to compare. even if its not entirely the same. it would be darned close. so no loss to you
