Sadowsky vs. Tonebone

Sign in to disble this ad
I want a bigger sound, and I want to cut through more when playing without turning up! I play a MIM Jazz bass with Basslines pickups (a humbucker at the bridge), and have narrowed down my pre-amp choices to the Sadowsky and the Tonebone Bassbone. Unfortunately, I don't have the option to test either of these pedals... so I have to go by what people say. Which of these would you guys recommend, or should I be looking at something else? I play hard rock and would like a really dirty but punchy and still relatively clear tone.

Thanks!

Just looked that one up, reads pretty good! I like the idea of the overdrive also being a boost, that would work really well for me. In what ways would it be better than the Sadowsky? A grittier sound or what?

Thanks.

a grittier fuller sound for sure. the extra eq controls give heaps to doing a mix. a sadowsky def lets u cut through the mix. but doesnt always mean a fuller sound. i like the sadowsky for that marcus miller sound, if ya know what i mean, and would have kept it if i could for that stand alone pedal for jazz gigs.

Ah yep, I think I know what you mean. I play in a three-piece, and we want to sound as big as we can, so maybe the Aguilar is the way to go then? Sounds like it would do a much better job of filling out the rhythm under guitar solos better aswell.

The tonebone wont effect your tone much but has other cool options. The sadowski has a great tone to it plus the mute is very handy. For that gritty rock tone I would suggest the sansamp bddi. I haven't tried the tone hammer but it is supposed to do the same thing and its on my 'next list' after I get sick of my ebs microbass II. The ebs would totaly cover your needs too, it cuts through like nothing else I've used.

Just looked up the EBS... looks to be a fair bit more expensive than the other two? I'm a student, so what I get can't be too exy and has to be something that will last me a pretty long time. I really wish that there was somewhere down here that I could test bass pedals, it's frustrating as.
