On the one hand, I should probably hit it just so it's in my reviews, but OTOH it looks like it's discontinued, and when an already-low-budget item is discontinued, it doesn't inspire a lot of excitement to buy.
If it's as good as a Behringer, it's worth $40. If it's as bad as the Carvin rackmount opto comp, then it's not worth $40. |

Samson/Ash, like everyone else in the in the industry, is sucking air and dumping product lines at deep discount, including at least some that got good reviews, like their active ribbon microphone.
This thing was originally $159 MSRP at introduction.
If I were filling out an order (free shipping from Ash now requires a princely $149), I'd bag this as a half-rack unit that more or less functions as a live-grade compressor should be worth forty bucks.
But I'm not filling out an order.

I got mine tonight and haven't done anything with it. It's in half-1U format, with screws to mount it in a tray.
It's a lot of product for $30, I have to say. Dunno if it works worth squat or not, but it comes in a big box.

Thirty bucks, man. Live dangerously and tell us about it when you get it.

Too many screws for me to tear it apart to look at the guts.
You might want to check out the manual online.

I'm no compressor expert, but it seems that this is a fairly subtle effect. I await more expert analysis.

I work as an audio tech, and I do a lot of corporate/speech events, and it always seems like I need another channel of compression, so I'll probably just keep this little guy with me. |

I'm currently using a dual channel rack compressor (one channel sitting idle) I'd rather have a single channel one and since it's half-rack that leaves some additional ventilation space for my power amp. goody!
for $30 it's worth a shot in the dark.
