Sans Amp Programmable D.I question!!!

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi, I have recently started looking at Tech 21 Sans amp pedals and the one that caught my eye was the Programmable D.I one which allows you to save 3 of your favourite tones.

The fact that you can have 3 of your tones at your feet as well as a D.I and distortion/dirt box sounds great.

The plan would be, to have one channel clean, one channel dirt/grit and one channel say for a slap tone.

I have two Spector basses (hot outputs) and a GK 1001-II rig. I like a lot of "clank" in my tone (think Geddy Lee/Alex Webster) and I can get this pretty well with my Spectors and GK rig but would like to add some dirt/grit at times (not fuzz or heavy ass distortion, just a little dirt) ,this is where the 3 channel and distortion come into play

Regarding my equipment would this Sans amp be a good choice as a next buy?

Any advice will be much appreciated

Thanks!

I think anyone can benifit from this pedal. I love mine, but a word of caution: it will color your tone a lot. You may want to try it before ordering one blind. I can say it does a bright snappy tone quite well (Geddy lee) and the presence knob is great for dialing in some of that trebly clank and snap. I think it'd be a perfect fit for you, but it'll probably be night and day in terms of tone between the pedal and your transparent GK rig.

Thanks, that sounds like the tone am after, although I do not want to cover up my GK clean tone, I just liked the fact that with this pedal you can get the option of having 3 of your other tones saved. It just seems quite flexible if you know what I mean.

Any other thoughts on the Sans Amp programmable D.I?

Thanks again

Actually our Programmable Bass Driver DI has the option to give you bypassed tone as well. It also has the blend knob function which will allow you to mix in your straight signal with the effect engaged. When the blend knob is set to minimum the analog amp emulation is bypassed though the tone circuitry is still active.

This is a fantastic pedal that gives you a lot of options (including nailing some nice Geddy tones...)

As said, you can use as much or as little as the tone as you like, and I love the ability to dial in 3 different sounds - and change them on the fly and save them.

I doubt I will ever get rid of this - but I am sure I can find someone to buy it if I wanted to.

get it

Cheers guys!

One last question, because my Spectors have pretty hot output, how does this sansamp handle with active basses?

I'm using a PBDDI for years now, always with active basses (stingray5, lakland usa 5).

Preset #1: SVT/gritty tone (sucks out quite some mids - the biggest gripe with mid-loving bass players with this box)
Preset #2: my take on vintage-y middy, more crunchy
Preset #3: dirtiest, my semi-take on "Muse's Time is Running out"-kind of sound.

(drive-bass-treble-presence-blend-level readings in o'clock format)
#1: 12 - 10.5 - 10.5 - 8 - 3 - 12
#2: 1 - 9 - 7.5 - 7 - 4 - 2
#3: 2.5 - 10.5 - 10.5- 10.5 - 1.5 - 11

Have a little big muff (dark) and mastotron (brighter) for more heavy sounds. [and a few Line6 M9 patches for special FX]
