SansAmp Bass Driver DELUXE - Best of its kind or are there better?

Sign in to disble this ad
Situation: I have a P-Bass with flats, and an Ibanez BTB with rounds. Between the two I have all the tones I need for any gig, but I want a device I can put in-line before my amp that will let me plug both in and switch back and forth.

This unit needs to provide tube emulation, have basic EQ capability, and have presets allowing me to equalize the difference in signal strength (which is considerable) between the two basses.

It looks like the SansAmp Bass Driver deluxe (the one with the 4 foot switches) would be just the thing... and I'm already a confirmed SansAmp fan from owning their basic BDDI... but before I drop $270 on this puppy I want to know if anyone has a better suggestion.

Thanks in advance.

I'm a big fan of the Sansamp BDDI Deluxe. There are many here on TB that will quickly and loudly shout VT (which I'd certainly recommend you try first to confirm what you know about the BDDI) but one BIG advantage is that the older Bass Driver Deluxe can be found for much cheaper used in the classifieds here. Do a bit of digging and you will find a deal.

Well I know that the presence of a midrange control in the VT (and absence of same in the BD Deluxe) is a huge deal for some folks. I need to decide if it's a big thing for me since it looks like that's about the only thing separating the two.

The VT has more gain on tap and the two are voiced differently. Allthough there is a lot of overlapping between them. Roughly: vintage mid range bump vs modern mid range scoop. SVT-CL vs SVT-4PRO.
