SansAmp Bass Driver Deluxe HELP!!

Sign in to disble this ad
I just purchased the Bass Driver Deluxe. It doesn't work right, most likely a user error.

I have a BOSS limiter enhancer, a BOSS ODB-3, and an EBS Octabass also. They are hooked up to my bass.

When I use the Driver with the other effects the sound gets farty and it almost sounds like the speaker is blown. I think this may be due to the compression but I don't know. The amp isnt actually blown btw >.>

When I raise the gain, the noise goes real bad. When the gain is off, no problem. When i raise the gain and turn off the compression, no problem. The compression gives me the punch I need in my tone, I can't just bypass it.

Is there a correct order of connecting this chain? if so, please respond with suggestions.

It sounds like you are overloading one of the pedals (or your amp's preamp) with the gain from another - ie: improper gain staging - and one of your pedals or your amp's input is clipping.

Any idea on how I can fix it? my tone was fine before I introduced the bass driver. I'm probably just going to bring it back.

Page 3 has a section called "Placement Order of Other Effects"

Sounds like the Octabass might need to go after the Sanamp, while everything else seems to be okay before it.

If that doesn't fix it, I would try lowering the Level and/or the Blend on the Sansamp until you get the right mix. I wouldn't bail on it just yet, it's a real flexible tool to have, with many sonic possibilities right at your feet! It's takes a little getting used to, especially with the programmable knobs. I've had a setting perfectly dialed up one night, then had to change it another night- whether I tweaked the knobs or it was the room, hard to tell. I've gotten better at it though.

Yup.

OP. Try adjusting each of your pedals for unity gain (your bass' perceived volume should be the same whether the pedal is on or off) individually before switching them all on.

I'll try finding unity gain. I would have brought this back in a second if it wasn't for the feedback.

Also, if i'm powering all my pedals (all 9 volt) off of my Boss TU-88 tuner, will that compromise the sound? I can already see the lights not as bright as they should be

Also, I'm wondering if I had it connected wrong. I have my combo amp going into my Compression, compression into the octave pedal, the octave pedal into the Bass Driver, Bass driver into the bass. I'm wondering if the extra effects should be plugged into the effects loop rather than the input/output plugs. Or should I just use it as a preamp? so confused =(

What do you mean by powering all your pedals off of your tuner? I'm looking at your tuner's manual, and I don't see where it even has a power daisy chain.

As far as your signal path, I would refer to the Sansamp manual, which I linked above. The path you're describing is not recommended by them.

It says specifically that pitch shifters should be after the Sansamp.

I'd find a way to properly power your pedals,...not getting enough juice can cause quality of sound issues.

general rule of thumb, compressors in the front, pre amps in the back and everything in between. Exceptions with pitch shifters and the like.
