SansAmp Bass Driver DI and 105Q CryBaby dilema

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi there...
I purchased an SansAmp Bass Driver DI and I previously owned and bass wah the 105Q. I want to use the sans amp as a direct box to the PA and as well as a preamp to my amp, but I find that the sansamp after the wah doesnt work (almost no wah sound). Can I still use the DI feature if I put the wah after the sansamp?

Nope. Well, you can, but the wah won't effect the signal.

But have you tried setting the SansAmp's blend to zero so that it doesn't color your tone at all? In that case it should work only as a DI and not a tube emulator.

And while I'm sure you've fiddled with it a lot, I know that when I had a Weeping Demon wah, it worked just fine in front of the SansAmp.

Nope, you can't.

Are you sure you wired it correctly? I mean that you got the inputs and outputs the right way?

Finally you might wanna fiddle a bit with the knobs, to make sure you aren't canceling out the "wah"-frequencies...

Listen to Stuggi - he's nailed it. Wahs are essentially an extreme boost at a specific frequency band - if you counter it by cutting those frequencies then you get no wah sound!

I kept thinking about this, the "wah"-frequencies are essentially midrange if I remember correctly, and the sansamp hasn't got a mid-level knob, the midlevels are fixed, so you get a midscooped sound from boosting bass and treble. What I would do is to set the sansamp flat and see if that helps. If that doesn't work you might try turning the blend all the way down as well (which essentially removes the sansamps tube-emulation from the signal, so one less thing to worry about)...

I don't like the way effects sound into the sansamp. That's my personal taste, but it is the nature of the beast. Turning down the bass and treble may help get you the midrange you need for your wah sound to come through, but you may find the wah still sounds better without the sansamp altogether. Nature of the beast.
