Sansamp Bass Driver DI advice

Sign in to disble this ad
I've had the Sansamp Bass Driver DI for well over a year now and haven't gotten that right sound out of it yet. I can't seem to get that right combination of low end and growl I am looking for without losing my brightness. I have fooled around with the settings since I got it but haven't gotten that "right" sound out of it yet. I was wondering if any other owners/users of this box could suggest some settings or share their own.

Been a while but I remember it being pretty mid-shy. I must say I never liked it because I was in the same boat you're in when I used it. Decent but never really achieved greatness as I define it. The VT Bass pedal, OTOH, is a huge step up in tone, but it doesn't have a DI, so you lose that until they come out with a VTDI (which they really need to do).

this is an area where i find the bass driver can fall short, where it's aggressive sound comes from pretty much only it's brightness. maybe an extra eq from an amp and/or pedal could help by dialing in low mids.

Or you could make the next logical step in the progression and get a ParaDriver. I made the switch and I couldn't be happier. Total control of the spectrum!

I've found boosting the mid control on your bass can help (I find my stingray is good for this), or rolling back the bass and the treble a little less. I've found the higher register tends to get a bit lost too though, unless I pull some bass out, boost a few mids and turn up the overall volume a fraction.

This is where being a huge fan of the slight 125-200 hz boost comes in handy. There's nothing like it for making high notes pop out and sound fat. I think it's because the fundamentals of those notes hover in that range but I could be wrong.

Either they didn't sell many of them, or people love 'em, because I've been looking for one for a while and no one seems to be giving them up!

I used to have a BDDI, and I always found that I had to boost the mid frequencies in the 800-1000Hz range to get the sound I was looking for. There are a couple past threads here where someone ran the BDDI through some audio spectrum analysis software and found that the pedal does indeed notch the mids in that range by a fairly significant amount.

+1 here! My tone of choice is somewhat different than what the BDDI and VT bass offer. A bump at 750 Hz is where it's at!

Keep your eyes peeled in the classifieds here, they turn up every once in a while. I'll actually be looking for another one soon, then I'll have 1 for each rig lol.
