SansAmp bass driver DI - effects?

Sign in to disble this ad
Are there any effects in the Sansamp? I'm thinking of getting the one with the 3 buttons, I have Ampeg solid state equipment but I'm trying to get more of the old tube sound I was woundering if there was a built in flange effect? I have on of those Ampworks boxes, that sounds pretty good with 2 15" cabinets making them sound like one Fender 2X15 cabinet, but I can't find a footswitch for it.

Nope. And FWIW the Tech 21 website and all of the retail websites describe what it does pretty clearly, and none of those sites mention any effects other than amp emulation and EQ, so I'm not sure where you got the idea it would have anything like that.

Read all about it in the FX forum. Search on "sansamp", "BDDI", "SABDDI", "SAPBDDI", "programmable", and -while you're at it- "flanger" and "multi" for flangers and multifx. To hear samples, visit the FX forum Wiki.

thanks, you right they don't mention a flange, as for amp types, I've seen SVT mentioned a few times.

The SansAmp BassDriver is designed to emulate the sound of a cranked Ampeg SVT and nothing else.

so, technically it could be a kind of overdrive

it would probably be more fuzzy than distorted

Unlike the Line 6 and Digitech lines of digital modeling processors, the SansAmp BDDI is an analog amp-emulating DI/pedal, whose sound is designed to resemble an Ampeg SVT + miked 8x10 cabinet.

It has one "model" only, but its EQ and Drive controls give some tonal diversity.

The only product that Tech 21 makes for bass with multiple voicings is the VT Bass, which just came out this year. The Character knob on it, combined with an expanded EQ, would give you a lot more tonal variety. What sucks is that it doesn't have a DI output, but if you aren't planning to use it as a DI, it's no big deal.

It has a couple more sounds than that, but they are all based on tube amp simulations.

I would expect that SABDDI in front of a SS Ampeg would get you close to the sound you're looking for - a "real" Ampeg (the SVT).

Thanks, that answers my question. I think I'll just stick with the Korg.

I just bought one of these today. So many folks here have one so I was curious to hear why. I was able to dial in a tone I liked. If you crank the drive, blend and presence you can really get that tubey distortion sound. I used it with my pedals at the end of the signal chain. Is that where most of you have it? I'm thinking there or at the start.

I also plan on using it as a DI with my Mbox2 Mini.
